Alabama Open Shooting Dog Championship

It was a great pleasure to visit the famous Sedgefield Plantation in Union Springs, Alabama for a couple of days of photography last week. I missed seeing the eventual winner but did see and photograph the R-U champion, Cassique’s Boss.

I finally got to meet the writer, Barbara Teare who was reporting the Championship. Barbara and I have been working on projects together for the past few years so we already felt like we knew each other. Thanks to her for her loan of “Jake” who I got to ride on Saturday afternoon giving me a chance to see two of the courses. Wow, what a place to run a dog!

North Dakota trainer Sherry Ray Ebert was there with her husband Kyle. It was Sherry’s scheme for the three of us to meet at the Championship with the intention of gathering material to create a short story to be published on Strideaway about Sedgefield Plantation in appreciation to owner Raymond Harbert who is so supportive of field trials. I took well over 250 photos so we should have plenty of images to accompany the story.

Thanks to all the wonderful people I met at Sedgefields!
