Following the great success of last year’s Calendar, Dazzle Gardens’ Betsy Danielson and I decided to get to work early on the 2011 Dazzle Calendar. It’s off to the printer this week and will be available to order from Dazzle Gardens next week. Stay tuned!
For the gardener in your family or anyone who loves flowers…
Like most of us who hunt or field trial, it’s the autumn months we look forward to for our time off from work. This September, I’ve been invited to judge the prestigious John S. Gates Memorial Derby Classic and Pelican Derby Classic in Broomhill, Manitoba which run in conjunction with the Manitoba Championship — the oldest Canadian prairie championship first run in 1902!!

Sometimes our best ideas result in unexpected consequences. Take for example the Cloverdale store, 14 miles east of Sandstone, Minnesota, I happened upon during my travels last month. Sadly, a lack of marketing expertise created the exact opposite response as was intended. And despite the Cloverdale store’s fine offering of unique American Eagle lawn ornaments and assorted doo-dads, they appear to be quite “CLOSED”.
So, if you think you have a great marketing idea, why not pass it by us first. Let our nearly 30 years of communications expertise help guide you to success…and may your doors always be “OPEN”!
P.S. Our services always include spell-checking
Where does the time go? Beautiful weather continues here in Maine with some welcome heat for the 4th of July celebrations. Spring flowers are spent making way for summer blooms. Lucky my neighbors have such green thumbs! Happy 4th of July to all our clients and friends. For more summer flowers, please visit chrismathanphoto.com Gallery: Emerson Garden
Thanks to Jerry Kolter and Betsy Danielson of Northwoods Bird Dogs for taking the time to let me photograph some of the dogs in their kennel including the cutest puppies ever! You can see more in the Bird Dogs Photo Gallery.
I had a fantastic time at the Outdoor Writers Association of America’s annual conference held in Rochester, MN last week…and look forward to becoming a member! Visit OWAA
I also spent time driving around the state of Minnesota AGAIN looking for new digs for The Sportsman’s Cabinet. Among other places, I visited the architecturally rich city of Winona located in the southeastern part of the state on the Mississippi River. Winona is home to one of the most impressive art museums I have ever visited — The Minnesota Maritime Art Museum — housing some great treasures of art. Their Maritime collection includes letters written by Lord Horatio Nelson and his wash basin from the HMS Victory, Nelson’s flagship at the Battle of Trafalgar where he lost his life. Paintings from the 463-piece Burrichter/Kierlin Marine Art Collection include artists such as Homer, Monet, Pissarro, Renoir, Van Gogh…and many more.
What a jewel!!!
Dutch artist Maarten Platje’s painting of “tea clippers”, Ariel and Taeping, racing for London from Foochow, China with loads of tea. After 99 days, the two ships were only 10 minutes apart when they docked! (print available at the Museum shop).
And what a fitting name for a great bird dog…Clyde Morton’s great field trial champion “Ariel”.
We’re getting some nice comments on the Photo Essay published in the latest issue of the Ruffed Grouse Society magazine. Anna Stubna, editor, asked me to write an article on photographing bird dogs which I am submitting to her today.
